I just completed refurbishing my daughter’s old Potato Bin. She almost tossed it out, but I convinced her otherwise, saying, “No, don’t do that, let me give it a makeover, engrave the lid, and sell it instead.” She replied, “If you do all that, I will want it back!” It was amusing! She offered to pay for the makeover, but being her mother, I can’t bring myself to charge her. Now, I’m excited to start on another one for myself or perhaps someone else!
This project turned out to be a fun and meaningful experience. The bin already had plenty of charm, so giving it a fresh look felt natural. After sanding the wood and adding the engraved lid, the whole piece came back to life. It looked warm, rustic, and ready for many more years of use. Seeing my daughter’s reaction made the work even more rewarding.
Since finishing her bin, I’ve been inspired to create more of them. Each one has its own style, and every engraving adds a personal touch. Some people like simple farmhouse designs, while others enjoy custom names or images. Because of that, I now make more Potato Bins. I offer custom engravings for anyone who wants a unique piece for their home.
These bins are great for kitchens, pantries, or even as decorative storage. They also make thoughtful gifts. I enjoy crafting each one with care, and I love seeing how different designs bring out new personality in the wood. Each new piece has been such a joy to create, and I can’t wait to make even more.
